<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the high proliferation strain of an edible basidiomycete, especially the high proliferation strain of Lentinus edodes which is a binucleate mycelium, and to provide a method for producing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Provided is the method for producing the high proliferation strain of the edible basidiomycete, for culturing the cells of the edible basidiomycete which is the binucleate mycelium, in a colchicines-containing culture medium having a polyploid-forming ability, at a low temperature for a long time. The Lentinus edodes is suitably used as the edible basidiomycete which is the binucleate mycelium, and the culture treatment in the colchicines solution is performed at a low temperature of 4 to 10°C for at least seven days.
