<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP capable of achieving an excellent image display performance by demonstrating a luminance efficiency more than a conventional one does, while reducing a discharging voltage irrespective of a cell structure of an ultra-high definition by adjusting a discharge gas composition and a full pressure of the discharge gas or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the PDP of an AC plane discharge type, a Xe-Ar-based discharge gas is enclosed in a discharge space 15. An Ar partial pressure in the discharge gas is set at 10% or more and 20% or less, and moreover a full pressure of the discharge gas is set at 20 kPa or higher and 50 kPa or lower. Furthermore, in a part of adjacent barrier ribs 13 facing each other, a shortest distance between surfaces of the barrier ribs 13 in barrier rib tip portions facing a front panel 2 is set at 70 μm or more and 90 μm or less.
