<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which has a favorable SNR upon reproduction in a system in which a high-sensitivity head such as a GMR head is used. <P>SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium contains a Fe<SB>16</SB>N<SB>2</SB>phase in a magnetic layer, and contains granular or ellipsoidal iron-nitride magnetic powder having an average particle size of 20 nm or smaller, plate-like hexagonal ferrite magnetic powder having an average plate diameter between 10 to 30 nm and a binder, and the content of the iron-nitride magnetic powder in the magnetic layer falls between 50 to 90 mass% with respect to the total amount of the iron-nitride magnetic powder and the hexagonal ferrite magnetic powder. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
