<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chucking mechanism adjusting a chucking position not to displace a chuck center position when chucking cylindrical workpieces different in diameter, and also to provide a workpiece transfer device using the chucking mechanism. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The chucking mechanism chucks each cylindrical workpiece (W) using first and second arms (11a, 11b) configured to be opened and closed. The first and second arms (11a, 11b) have first and second jaw portions (13, 14), respectively, each of which has two surfaces in contact with an outer circumference of the workpiece (W) as the corresponding arm points of contact with the outer circumference of the workpiece (W), wherein either of the jaw portions reciprocates in a direction perpendicular to the opening/closing direction of the first and second arms (11a, 11b).
