<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suspension system for a vehicle which is highly practical. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The system has a solenoid motor 60 operated by an attitude variation of a vehicle body (a) and is provided with an electromagnetic vehicle body variation suppression device capable of suppressing the attitude variation of the vehicle body by a force generated by the solenoid motor, a battery 100 capable of supplying power to the solenoid motor and recovering generated power from the solenoid motor (b), and a detector 106 for detecting a current flowing through the inside of the solenoid motor (c). The system is configured to determine a state in relation to the roughness of the traveling road surface of the vehicle based on variation of a detected current. When the traveling road surface is rough, the solenoid motor is inverted by vibration of a relatively high-frequency domain inputted from a wheel, and power generation current in accordance with electromotive force varies at a relatively high frequency.
