PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel wire rod excellent in a cold-workability, and a producing method thereof. SOLUTION: This steel wire rod is composed, by mass%, of 0.005-0.60% C, 0.01-0.40% Si, 0.20-1.80% Mn, ≤0.040% P, ≤0.050% S and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and composed of a ferritic structure having ≤15 μm average grain diameter and spheroidal cementite having ≤3 average aspect ratio and ≤0.6 μm average grain diameter, and the pieces of the spheroidal cementite satisfying these conditions, are ≥1.0×10<SP>6</SP>×C content(%) pieces/mm<SP>2</SP>.
