The general field of the invention is that of laser gyros. It is known that the sensitivity of laser gyros is limited by a geometric factor called the scale factor. The laser gyro according to the invention includes means for very significantly increasing this scale factor without affecting the main geometric characteristics of the cavity. More precisely, the cavity of perimeter Lt comprises at least one dispersive medium of geometric length I and optical index n, the dispersion of said medium being abnormal, and the variation in optical index as a function of the optical frequency f of the laser gyro being denoted by ?n/?f such that the increase in scale factor given by the expression of formula (I) is approximately constant and greater than unity close to the frequency f. |
