<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composting regulator capable of promoting composting by improving air permeability of the compost material by gelling or solidifying it while preventing the increase in its volume in a treating method for composting the compost material by a fermentation treating, and a composting regulation method. <P>SOLUTION: This composting regulator contains an aerobic microbe and a naturally-derived thickening polysaccharide. As the thickening polysaccharide, for example, pectin, carrageenan, guar gum, xanthan gum, and gum arabic, etc. are used.
