<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart necessary characteristics for an optimal resonator to an optical component. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical component includes a coating ensemble that: contains a layer performing absorption saturably; acts as a saturable absorber; has a structure of phase-coupled multiple layers; and is "etalon-free". In the optical component, separate, individual, discrete optical elements need not be assembled in a sandwich-type construction. Instead, the coating ensemble is provided in which each individual layer, together with the remainder of the ensemble, contributes to the overall behavior relating to the phase for the incident beam. Only with this construction and the resulting computational form, it is possible to position one or more layers having the saturable absorbing properties in this ensemble, allowing the relation for phase such that saturable absorption effect can be achieved optimally.
