PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To download information on the surroundings of a current location by using station stop time in which a communication condition is proper, when acquiring the information from a route search server, while moving following route guidance. SOLUTION: The navigation system includes: a position detection means 23 for acquiring current location and time of day; a stop determination means 26 for determining that a transportation means in a guide route has stopped; an estimated stop time calculation means 281 for calculating estimated stop time; a stop time calculation means 282 for calculating the stoppage time; a communication time determination means 28; and a communication means 22 for receiving data related to the current location. When the stop determination means 26 determines that the transportation means has stopped, the estimated stop time calculation means 281 calculates the estimated stoppage time at a stop station; the stop time calculation means 282 calculates the stop time; and the communication time determination means 28 compares the estimated stop time with the stop time. If the stop time is shorter than the estimated stop time, the communication by the communication means 22 is maintained.
