PURPOSE: A washing machine and a control method thereof are provided to achieve effective distribution of laundry by driving the drum at a first speed to allow only part of laundry to move and then entering a second speed. CONSTITUTION: A control method of a washing machine comprises a step of driving a drum at a first speed so that part of laundry moves in the drum and the other is attached to the interior of the drum(S610), a step of increasing the drum speed to a second speed so that the laundry is attached to the interior of the drum if the eccentricity of the drum in operation is less than a first value(S620), and a step of stopping or decelerating the rotation of the drum when the eccentricity of the drum detected in driving at the second speedy is equal to or greater than a second value.
