<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antimicrobially active composition derived from plant essential oils by using a plurality of essential oils and, if needed, a plurality of enhancers together with the essential oils to maximize antimicrobial activity. <P>SOLUTION: In producing the antimicrobially active composition by using plant essential oils having antimicrobial activity, a small but effective amount of the enhancer for enhancing antimicrobial activity selected from the group consisting of polyionic organic enhancers and polyionic inorganic enhancers is added to a combination of at least two kinds of plant essential oils.
