PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method by which good color display is possible even if a reversible image display medium is used which has a photosensitive layer containing a photochromic compound having absorption in a visible light region in a decolorized state. SOLUTION: The image processing method using a reversible image display medium includes at least a step of exposing one photochromic compound to light in which one photochromic compound in a colored state is exposed to light, whereby the photochromic compound is decolorized, and a step of exposing other photochromic compounds to light in which other photochromic compounds each in a colored state are exposed to light, whereby the photochromic compounds are decolorized; wherein when, by the step of exposing one photochromic compound to light, at least one of other photochromic compounds each in a decolorized state is colored, after carrying out the step of exposing one photochromic compound to light, the step of exposing other photochromic compounds to light is carried out.
