<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which is capable of avoiding serious damage by quickly detecting the runaway of a heat source and surely cutting off the supply of power to the heat source, when the heat source runs away. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a fixing device 9, a thermocut 26 is arranged outside a non-suspended endless belt 25, as a heating member, a heater (heat source) 28 is arranged inside the endless belt 25, and a toner image carried on a paper P passing through a fixing nip formed between the endless belt 25 and a pressure roller (pressure member) 30 coming into contact with the endless belt 25 is heated by the heater 28, to be fixed on the paper P. In the fixing device 9 configured such that when the thermocut 26 detects the runaway of the heater 28, the supply of the power to the heater 28 is cut off, a guide member 31 is arranged inside the endless belt 25 and the gap (Gap) between the guide member 31 and the thermocut 26 is prescribed as a design value for runaway detection of the heater 28 by the thermocut 26.
