<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sprocket for a chain wherein optimization of the tooth profile and pitch angle of the sprocket enables vibration and noises caused in engagement of the chain with sprocket teeth to be reduced, disengagement of a standard chain from the sprocket to be smoothly performed, and the production to be relatively easily performed to reduce frictional noise. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the sprocket 11 for a chain, a plurality of teeth having at least two kinds of tooth-profile pitch angles of unequal sizes are irregularly arranged. In tooth profiles of a plurality of teeth, the root circle diameters or root circle distances are made larger than those of a standard sprocket.
