<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To favorably manufacture a liquid crystal device including an alignment layer different in alignment regulating force between a pixel region and a region between the pixel regions. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal device, a liquid crystal layer is held between a pair of substrates, a plurality of pixel electrodes 11 made using metal or metal oxide as a forming material are formed on one substrate, a first alignment layer 14 covers a region between the plurality of pixel electrodes 11, and a second alignment layer 15 covers the plurality of pixel electrodes, respectively. This method of manufacturing the liquid crystal device includes: a process of forming a first material film 14a covering the pixel electrodes 11; a process of forming a resist pattern for covering a region without the pixel electrode 11 on the first material film 14a; a process of exposing the pixel electrodes by etching the first material film 14a with the resist pattern as a mask; and a process of forming a second material film 15a on the pixel electrodes 11 by a vapor-phase deposition method, wherein the forming material of the first material film 14a is an organic high polymer compound, and the forming material of the second material film 15a is a silane compound having an alkyl group.
