PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of surely preventing the deterioration of a read image by reducing vibration transmitted from a motor to a scanning means through a drive transmitting means without increasing the rigidity of a carriage for a mirror and a scanning means or the like. SOLUTION: A light source 104a for illuminating an original and a 1st mirror 104b are attached with the carriage 1 for an illuminating unit 104. Besides, driving wires 46a and 46b for driving the illuminating unit 104 along guide rails 103 are separately sandwiched between flange parts 1a and 1b and wire fixtures 5 protrusively arranged on the right and left sides of the carriage 1, and the flange parts 1a and 1b are separately fastened to the wire fixtures 5 by fixing screws 6. Elastic members for damping the vibration 7 are separately arranged between the flange part 1a, the wire fixture 5 and the driving wire 46a, and between the flange part 1b, the wire fixture 5 and the driving wire 46b.
