PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both of the enhancement of the permeability of an excretion fluid in a region abutting on an excretion part of a surface sheet and the reduction of a stuffy feeling in the region abutting on a region other than the excretion part in an absorbent article such as a sanitary napkin or a disposable diaper. SOLUTION: The absorbent article has a liquid-permeable surface sheet, a liquid-impermeable back sheet, and an absorber held between the surface sheet and the back sheet. The surface sheet includes a nonwoven fabric and the region abutting on the excretion part of the surface sheet is a low-density part low in apparent density of the nonwoven fabric as compared with the region other than the excretion part of the surface sheet. The thickness of the low-density part of the surface sheet is larger than that of the part other than the low-density part of the surface sheet and the basis weight of the low-density part of the surface sheet is equal to that of the part other than the low-density part of the surface sheet.
