PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication control method for allowing an OLT (Optical Line Termination) to obtain optional functions possessed by an ONU (Optical Network Unit) regardless of the combination of OLTs and ONUs. SOLUTION: The communication control method comprises: an inquiry message sending step where an OLT transmits to an ONU a first MPCP (Multi Point Control Protocol) message including inquiry information on optional functions possessed by the ONU; a response message transmitting step where the ONU upon receipt of the first MPCP message, returns a second MPCP message including response information showing that the ONU possesses the optional functions if the ONU possesses the optional functions; and an optional function specification step where the OLT specifies the optional functions possessed by the source ONU based on the response information included in the second MPCP message.
