PURPOSE: An apparatus is provided to update software code previously stored by detecting software codes contained in a digital broadcasting signal from a data packet, comparing the software code with the software code previously stored, and retrieving a new version of one among them. CONSTITUTION: A receiver(12) receives a digital broadcasting signal having at least one of digital television programming packets and at least one of data packets. A demodulator(14) coupled with the receiver(12) demodulates the digital broadcasting signal. A detector(16) coupled with the demodulator(14) detects the data packets of at least one. A memory(20) coupled with the detector(16) stores software code contained in the data packets of at least one. A processor(18) coupled with the memory(20) allows the memory(20) to store the software code contained in the data packets of at least one. The memory(20) stores a software program therein, which includes a sequence of instructions for controlling the operation of the devices according to a first control system. The processor(18) replaces a portion of the software program at least with the software code contained in the data packets of at least one, to thereby change the first control system to a second control system. The first control system and the second control system are different with one another. |
