PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement a quick file search without increasing rewrites to an external storage medium. SOLUTION: A recording/reproducing apparatus includes an input/output part 11 that inputs/outputs data from/to an external storage medium 20, a storage part 17, and a control part 13 that reads out from the external storage medium 20 and stores in the storage part 17 via the input/output part 11 a file system Fs1 for managing video data Dt1 recorded in the external storage medium 20. A database control part 19 is also provided to construct a database Db1 according to attribute information about the video data Dt1 included in the file system Fs1' stored in the storage part 17, and to delete the data stored in the database Db1 when the external storage medium 20 is removed.
