PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element structured for solving trade-off, between reduction in drive voltage and improvement in yield. SOLUTION: The organic EL element includes a substrate, a pair of electrodes provided on the substrate, and an organic EL layer sandwiched between the pair of electrodes. The pair of electrodes include an anode and a cathode, the organic EL layer includes at least a light-emitting layer and a hole implantation layer coming into contact with the anode, and the hole implantation layer is made of an n-type semiconductor host material and a p-type semiconductor guest material and satisfies ¾E<SB>HIC</SB>¾+0.5 eV≥¾E<SB>GV</SB>¾>¾E<SB>HIC</SB>¾-0.6 eV for the LUMO level E<SB>HIC</SB>of the host material and the HOMO level of the guest material or a valence band level E<SB>GV</SB>.
