PURPOSE: An array substrate for a liquid crystal display and a manufacturing method thereof for securing an etching process is provided to improve image quality by maintaining the electrical characteristic of a TFT(Thin Film Transistor). CONSTITUTION: A gate electrode and a gate line are formed on a substrate. A gate insulating film(17) is formed on the substrate. The active layer and ohmic contact layer are formed on the substrate. The source electrode and the drain electrode are formed on the ohmic contact layer. The data line is formed. The protective film is formed on the substrate. The contact hole is formed.
