A system and a method for providing a user channel service are provided to enable a user to conveniently select a desired broadcasting program because the user can receive only an EPG(Electronic Program Guide) service regarding the desired broadcasting program. A video/speech separation unit separates video and speech from a certain tuned broadcasting signal. A metadata collection unit collects received metadata. A metadata classification unit analyzes the metadata provided from the metadata collection unit and extracts supplemental information related to a program corresponding to preliminarily set watching information. A video synthesis unit mixes the extracted supplemental information with the video provided from the video/speech separation unit and transmits the mixed video to a television(24) which displays it on a screen.
