摘要 The present invention refers to a toroidal concentrator, a device for concentrating radioactive energy resulting from any radioactive source, including the sun, which has minimal requirements for tracking the source without losing its concentrator power. The invention also comprises a method for constructing the toroidal concentrator from the profile of a two-dimensional concentrator. The method comprises the spin of a curve following a circumference perpendicular the axis of the two- dimensional concentrator in order to form a novel geometrical configuration: a toroidal configuration. The aforementioned configuration allows a higher radioactive flow concentration to be obtained with regard to the original two-dimensional concentrator. As an example, the two-dimensional curves may be a compound parabolic concentrator, an elliptical concentrator, a parabolic concentrator, a circular concentrator, amongst others. The inventive toroidal concentrator requires a reduced tracking of the rad ioactive source, and in case of being constructed with an aperture higher than 23 degrees, the concentrator does not requiring any tracking for concentrating the solar radiation. The toroidal concentrator may be used in an inverse manner just like a radiation diffuser by simply locating a source in the inner portion of the reduced semi-circular cavity, thus the application thereof in headlamps being evident. Also being useful as an acoustic wave diffuser.
