<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an in-vehicle device and a vehicle status detecting method capable of reducing a possibility that any antitheft device is broken or detached from a vehicle, and preventing the vehicle from being stolen even if a user does not always pass a specified point. <P>SOLUTION: The in-vehicle device 10 measures the position of itself as the position of a vehicle 1, and records the measurement as operation history data 5, and obtains present position data 7. A control unit of the in-vehicle device 10 collates the present position data 7 with the operation history data 5 to determine whether the vehicle 1 is in a normal status along the operation history in the past, or the vehicle 1 is in an abnormal status not along the operation history in the past. When it is determined that the vehicle 1 is in an abnormal status, an alarm is given.
