<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a space-saving shredder suited to personal use with a small contour. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The shredder with a scanner (1) includes a conveying mechanism (40) conveying a charged sheet-like medium, reading devices (7a, 7b) disposed facing at least one side of the medium conveyed by the conveying mechanism (40), and a shredding mechanism (50) disposed at the rear stage of the reading devices (7a, 7b). Visible content described on the medium is scanned by the reading devices (7a, 7b), and the medium is sequentially shredded by the shredding mechanism (50) interlocking with the scanning operation. The shredder further has a medium storing chamber part (30) holding and storing the charged medium. A medium sending main face of the storing chamber part (30), a medium reading position of the reading devices (7a, 7b), a medium conveying position of the conveying mechanism (40), and a medium shredding position of the shredding mechanism (50) are linearly disposed in one and the same vertically extending virtual plane (P-P).
