<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas decomposition element and a gas decomposing method, which have no problem on safety while applying a relatively high voltage between an anode and a cathode, for decomposing various malodor gas. <P>SOLUTION: The gas decomposition element includes a porous catalyst electrode 6 containing a catalyst, a counter electrode 7 pairing with the catalyst electrode, and an ion-conductive electrolyte 15 sandwiched between the catalyst electrode and counter electrode. The catalyst is carried on a carrier of a conductive material and supported on the catalyst electrode, or directly carried on the catalyst electrode.
