PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to recognize an On or Off state of a switch, even when a finger of an operator locates between electrodes. SOLUTION: A capacitance type switch device is equipped with a control base board incorporating a CPU and a threshold value for judging On or Off of a switch and provided with a change-over switch circuit, and a plurality of linearly arranged switch electrodes connected to the change-over switch circuit fitted to the control base board through wiring as well as dummy electrodes having no electric conducting relation with the control base board in front of and behind the plurality of linearly arranged switch electrodes inside a dielectric. When the finger of the operator touches a surface of the dielectric in a manner overlapping an intermediate position between neighboring electrodes and one electrode of the neighboring electrodes is connected to the CPU by change over of the change-over switch circuit in the control base board, electrostatic capacity generated between the other electrode and the finger of the operator forms a parallel state with the dummy electrode, whereby, electrostatic capacity detected by the switch electrode connected to the CPU with the change-over circuit is to be increased.
