PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide an EL backlight identifiable in an environment where high-intensity light enters a display such as a location under sunlight. SOLUTION: An electroluminescent layer contains a phosphor having a fluorescent pigment 21 or dye, wherein the fluorescent pigment or dye emits light substantially coincident with color of light emitted by the phosphor.
