<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the orientation of a display panel with a small number of components. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A speaker 4 is mounted on a camera body 2, and a hall element 15 is mounted on a display panel 10 rotatably attached to the camera body 2. The hall element 15 is provided for the display panel 10, and arranged to be adjacent to the speaker 4 when the display panel 10 is rotated to direct the screen of an LCD display surface 12 in the imaging direction. When the display panel 10 is rotated and the hall element 15 is made adjacent to the speaker 4, a detection signal is output, a CPU 20 instructs an LCD driver 27 to vertically invert an image, and an inverted image is displayed on the LCD display surface 12. When the display panel 10 is displaced again and the hall element 15 is separated from the vicinity of the speaker 4, the image is displayed on the LCD display surface 12 without being inverted.
