摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide element capable of wavelength conversion of satisfactory conversion efficiency. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide element comprises: a core layer 0101 made of nonlinear optical material; a clad structure layer 0102 configured by stacking a first clad 0103 and a second clad 0104 in the order from the side of the core layer; and a light absorbing layer 0105 formed so as to hold the clad structure layer 0102 together with the core layer 0101, wherein light is interfered and reflected between the core layer and the clad structure layer, the reflectance of interference reflection is set high for light having the fundamental mode of a fundamental wave and is set low for light having a higher mode generated in the core layer, thereby, the light having a higher mode generated in the core layer leaks to the side of the clad structure layer to be absorbed into the light absorbing layer and the harmonic light generated in the core layer is closed substantially in the core layer and is guided in the core layer together with a fundamental wave of a fundamental mode.
