An applying or laying step of applying or laying a grease-like or gel-like substance on a surface on the side of a sealed space of a sealing substrate, and a drying step of drying the grease-like or gel-like substance applied or laid on the sealing substrate are executed.  A bonding step of performing sealing by a sealant such as an adhesive at peripheral edges of the sealing substrate and an element-formed substrate while disposing the surface on which the grease-like or gel-like substance is applied or laid of the sealing substrate and a surface on which an organic EL element is formed of the element-formed substrate opposite each other is then executed.
