PURPOSE: A video recording device and a power supply monitoring method are provided to prevent loss of data which are recorded or stored when main power inputted into the video recording device is abnormally blocked. CONSTITUTION: A video recording device(200) comprises an assistant power unit(250), a video recording unit(230) and a current direction sensing unit(240). The assistant power unit is charged by driving power supplied from a vehicle battery(210). The video recording unit performs a normal process by receiving the driving power. The normal process generates and stores video data corresponding to recording information. The current direction sensing units are in a path through which driving power is supplied to the assistant power unit and a path through which charging power of the assistant power unit is supplied to the video recording unit. The current direction sensing unit senses a current direction in the path.
