A method for recording data in an optical disk recorder is provided to prevent an error when recording the data at an external region, and to record the data rapidly by performing an optimum power calculation at predetermined internal region of the optical disk and selectively performing the optimum power calculation according to the estimated optical power value. A method for recording data in an optical disk recorder comprises the steps performing an optimum power calculation(OPC) within a predetermined internal region of the optical disk for detecting real optical power value(S51), comparing the detected real optical power value to the corresponding standard optical power value for computing an estimated optical power value of maximum speed(S53), and selectively performing the optimum power calculation at predetermined external region of the optical disk according to the calculated estimated optical power value(S59).
