<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retrieval system of a distributed object capable of answering a client a retrieval result of a more suitable object by allowing naming services to confirm an operating state of the object. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the retrieval system of a distributed object in which a plurality of naming services 101 connected respectively to a server 108 and the client 111 by a network 107 in a freely communicable way are cooperatively connected in a mutually and freely communicable way, a naming service 101 includes a means for checking with a name space table 105 whether reference information of an object of a retrieval request exists upon receiving the retrieval request from the client 111, a means for transmitting an existence confirmation request to the server 108 being an actual state of the reference information of the object to confirm an operating state when the existence is confirmed, and a means for returning the reference information of the object of the server 108 to the client 111 when the server 108 is in an operating state, or the like.
