A component suitable as a crack arrestor or Doppler for an airplane structure comprises at least one first cover layer (3) forming a first skin surface (5) of the component (1), wherein the first cover layer (3) contains substantially aluminum or an aluminum alloy, and a base member (2) containing titanium or a titanium alloy. A first work piece made of titanium or a titanium alloy and a second work piece made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy are prepared for the manufacture of the component (1). The first work piece is connected to the second work piece through plating.
