<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas detection device for a heating system capable of detecting both of fuel leakage and incomplete combustion of a burning appliance by one gas detection device for a burning appliance, and capable of securely detecting fuel leakage in an early stage of an operation start of the burning appliance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A detection element 1 is provided with a gas sensing body 3 of which electric characteristics are changed in sensing flammable gas at a high temperature, and in sensing incomplete combustion gas at a low temperature, and a heater 4 for heating the gas sensing body 3. A control part 2 controls energization to the heater 4 so as to increase a temperature of the gas sensing body 3 to a high temperature for a certain period from a start of gas detection, and detects the flammable gas. Then, the control part 2 controls the energization to the heater 4 so that a high temperature period and a low temperature period of the gas sensing body 3 are generated alternately in a predetermined cycle, and detects the flammable gas based on the electric characteristics of the gas sensing body 3 in the high temperature period, and detects incomplete combustion gas based on the electric characteristics of the gas sensing body 3 in the low temperature period.
