Disclosed is a carbon wire using carbon filaments such as CNT having a sufficiently low electrical resistance.  A wire assembly using the carbon wire is also disclosed.  A carbon wire (1) comprises an assembly portion (3) and a graphite layer (4).  The assembly portion (3) is configured of a plurality of carbon nanotubes (2) serving as carbon filaments which are in contact with one another.  The graphite layer (4) is formed around the assembly portion (3).
