PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soldering iron positioning member that performs satisfactory soldering in an anoxic atmosphere, and to provide a method of manufacturing the positioning member. SOLUTION: A soldering iron is composed of an iron body, a heater supported on the iron body, an iron bit 2 connected to the heater, and a tubular protective cover 5 installed on the outer circumference of the iron bit 2 with an annular space apart, wherein an inert gas is made to jet around the chip end of the iron bit 2 through the annular space. The soldering iron is characterized by the positioning member 6 provided therein in which, with a main wall part 6a annularly formed, a plurality of projected parts 6b protruding outward from the main wall part 6a are formed with spaces apart in the circumferential direction of the main wall part 6a, in which an extended part 6d is formed extending from the end of each projected part 6b toward the axial line P direction of the main wall part 6a, and in which the iron bit 2 is inserted into the main wall part 6a, with the extended part 6d brought in contact with the protective cover 5.
