PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric sensor for reducing a processing load, and facilitating an optical axis adjustment work, without providing both of a one-dimensional imaging element and a two-dimensional imaging element. SOLUTION: This photoelectric sensor 51 includes a light receiving part 80 having a light receiving surface 86 on which a plurality of light receiving elements P are arrayed two-dimensionally, for receiving light from a light projection part 62 through a detection domain E. When a setting mode is selected, the sensor extracts a light receiving range Z on the light receiving surface 86 based on light receiving signals from the light receiving elements P when the light projection part 62 emits light, and sets a using range V' based on the light receiving range Z. When a detection mode is selected, the sensor performs detection operation based on light receiving signals only from the light receiving elements P in the using range V'.
