A method for controlling playback of a subtitle of an optical disc is provided to download and play subtitles of various languages by connecting the other subtitles except for the limited subtitle to a content providing server if the other subtitles are asked to be played. A method for controlling playback of a subtitle of an optical disc includes displaying a guide message when the number of subtitles corresponding to the contents of an optical disk does not correspond to the number of the limited subtitles(S11~S13); connecting to a specific content providing server via internet if the other subtitles except for the limited subtitles are asked to be played(S14~S17); and downloading and playing the subtitles through the interface with the content providing server(S18).
