<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can detect the transitions of the exchangeable belt units in a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a plurality of photosensitive drums forming toner patterns, and a belt unit having a belt in contact with the photosensitive drums and can be separated from photosensitive drums and also possible to detach from or attach to the body of the apparatus. Further, it has a first mode to bring the belt in contact with all the photosensitive drums, a second mode to bring the belt in contact with some prescribed photosensitive drums and setting other belts apart from them, a new unit detector 502 to move following the transition of the belt unit when switching the modes, and a sensor 504 to detect the moving of the new unit detector 502. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
