<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform equalization simulation by detecting a training sequence in an oscilloscope to acquire a sample of an analog waveform signal from a serial data link to produce a digitized waveform record. <P>SOLUTION: The digitized waveform record is received, and a processed digitized waveform record having channel effects of the serial data link removed is generated. The training sequence is generated from the processed digitized waveform record. Equalizer taps are generated from the digitized waveform record and the training sequence.
