PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high speed detection of a matching region without case classification of computation even when detecting a two or higher dimensional region. SOLUTION: The matching region detecting device is provided with: a recursive-index generating unit 1 for generating a recursive-index record corresponding to a recursion identifier for identifying a direction and positions of end points of the direction; and a recursive-index computation unit 4 for acquiring a plurality of recursive-index records each including a region in an overlapping relationship with those of others and computing a new recursive-index record from the plurality of recursive-index records. A recursive-index detection unit 5 detects a recursive-index record that matches detection conditions of characteristics among the recursive-index records accumulated in a recursive-index accumulation unit 2.
