<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder device for achieving much more reliable serial communication. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An encoder device is provided with: a measurement information storage part for storing measurement information in advance; a reception part for receiving a command signal; a measurement information reading part for reading measurement information corresponding to the received command signal from the measurement information storage part according to the command signal received by the reception part; a check code generation part for partial cycle redundancy check for generating a check code for partial cycle redundancy check with respect to the read measurement information; a check code generation part for overall cycle redundancy check for generating a check code for overall cycle redundancy check with respect to the measurement information and the check code for partial cycle redundancy check; and a transmission part for transmitting the measurement information and the check code for partial cycle redundancy check and the check code for overall cycle redundancy check by serial communication.
