PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine comprising combination of a cylinder block made of aluminum base composite using ceramic, and piston rings excellent in durability as compared to former piston rings. SOLUTION: This engine is provided with the cylinder block having a cylinder liner made of aluminum base composite reinforced by ceramic including at least one of silicon carbide and alumina, and the piston rings coated by nitride film 20 containing vanadium nitride layer 21 exposed to an outer circumference slide surface 17.
