INTERACTIVE PROGRAM GUIDE USING CONTINUOUS DATA STREAM AND CLIENT-SERVER DATA SUPPLEMENTATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television program guide system in which an interactive television program guide receives program guide data using two data delivery mechanisms.

SOLUTION: In this interactive television program guide system, the interactive television program guide implemented on user television equipment 22 obtains program guide data from the two data delivery mechanisms. Current program guide data are obtained from a continuous data stream. Other program data (which may include the current program guide data) are obtained by the program guide from a program guide server. The continuous data stream may also include program and program grouping identifiers. The program guide may perform real-time actions associated with program identified in the continuous data stream.
