PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process and a device for increasing the light transmission of an optical element for light of a fixed wavelength that is close to the absorption edge of the material constituting the optical element.

SOLUTION: The light transmission of the optical element for light of a fixed wavelength that is close to the absorption edge of the material constituting the optical element is increased by cooling the optical element.
