<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read the nuclear spin state of one donor in a semiconductor crystal. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a method of reading the nuclear spin state, a donor for reading a nuclear spin is disposed at a place that can be reached by Auger electrons in a depletion layer of a diode for causing transition from a metastable state where no current flows to a state where a breakdown current flows, by the passage of a single electron, and light is applied to generate a bound exciton from a neutral donor only by a donor in a specific nuclear spin state (step 4), thus detecting the breakdown current.
